Mcu Coffee Farms

An overview of the Kwa Muoka farm

A pictorial presentation on the progress at Kwa Muoka farm; one of the four coffee farms by the Union. Currently the union has four farms located at different areas around Kamuthanga with an estimated land acreage of about 18 acres and a total coffee tree count of over 8000 trees.

Efforts are in place by mcu management staff to rehabilitate the farms to coffee demonstration farms in the county. As well, coffee produced will increase coffee intake at Lecom.

Proceeds from the coffee will enhance the unions income and will facilitate farmers trainings in the  farms.

Linkages with service providers such as agrichemical suppliers are welcome were they can demonstrate their products and services

Machakos District Co-operative Union Limited was established in 1964 and registered under the Co-operative Societies Act in 1972 as an umbrella organization for primary organizations in Machakos District. MCU represents 81 affiliate co-operative societies with more than a total of 70,000 individual producers. Besides these co-ops are 26 women groups with a membership of more than 4000 women producers who are mainly in the production of hand crafted products like sisal baskets( Syondo), mats and other sisal products.
