Soap Stone Carvings
These beautiful soapstone carvings have all been handcrafted by artisans from Kisii County, Kenya. They are all handcrafted by the Kisii people in a small place called Tabaka. The craftsmen are organised in groups and co-operative societies. They model each item using simple hand tools. No machinery is used in the process of transforming soapstone into hundreds of items both decorative and functional. The profits they make improve their incomes and contribute to the improvement of community amenities. There is participation in decision making by all the artisans involved in the soapstone carving.
